Lexmark in PhilippinesPDFPrintE-mail
Lexmark's facilities in the Philippines are located in Cebu - Queen City and IT hub of the South. It is strategically located in two sites, Mactan Export Processing Zone II for its Manufacturing Facility -Lexmark International Phil. Inc. (LIPI) and at Cebu Business Park for Lexmark Research and Development Corporation and Lexmark Cebu Shared Services Center (CSSC), which is just a few minutes away from premier commercial and residential areas.

Lexmark Research and Development Corporation

In 2001, Lexmark Research and Development Corporation (LRDC) was opened at the Cebu Business Park with a mission to design, develop, deliver, and maintain software and firmware for Lexmark consumer printers. The Cebu R&D lab currently specializes in software, firmware and hardware development for its printer and printer drivers, network adapters and in rebranding of Lexmark printers for original equipment manufacturer partners worldwide. LRDC Cebu is the base of Lexmark's R&D operations in the Asia-Pacific region.

LRDC is the product of an extensive one-year study of potential locations in 10 countries, including Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. There are several reasons why Lexmark chose the Philippines for its R&D operations. One core reason is the Filipino workforce. Filipinos are believed to be very skilled, talented, trainable, hardworking, and with a lot of potentials due to a good education system and a lot of degree-qualified workers.

The second reason is more of its geography. The Philippines is centrally located and easy to access from all areas in the Asia-Pacific region. And since we have business partners all over the place - China, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan - Philippines is the convenient place located in the middle of these countries.

Another factor is that English is the second language in the Philippines, making it easy for an American company like Lexmark to communicate with its Filipino workforce.

Lexmark Plaza 1 (LP1)

The "Tower" as we call it, will stand the tallest among the buildings within the Cebu Business Park at present. It will be Lexmark's center for software, firmware development and test labs. Generally an office area but will have modern and state-of-the art facilities which include the 7-storey upper-level parking area, the canteen with its 400 seating capacity and a large clinic.

Lexmark Plaza 2 (LP2)

This is an 8-storey building, houses most of the technical functions that include product development, printer software development embedded code and networks packaging and system test. The building also features acoustic and packaging laboratories temperature and humidity chambers, and EMC (electromagnetic capability) chamber, which is first in the Philippines.

Lexmark Cebu Shared Services Center

With the creation of the Cebu Shared Services Center, Lexmark has bundled global support services and some nonstrategic activities into a centralized organization. The advantage is that by sharing common elements of each regional organization or business unit, efficiencies can be reached through the harmonization and effectiveness of processes.

This creates opportunities for lowering cost, increasing service levels and leveraging investments, such as the new ERP system, SAP. It will also free up resources in the divisions and regional business units enabling them to focus more on their goals and strategic aspects of the business.
